Firefighters are supporting the Bedford Borough Partnership’s Week of Action in Goldington from 6th - 9th of April.
There will be a variety of events and activities designed to encourage people to build safer, sustainable communities.
Part of this is about involving young people and encouraging them to take part in activities.
Bedfordshire and Luton Fire and Rescue Service invited firefighters who are trained football coaches to support the programme. A football tournament involving schools from across Goldington was being staged at Woodside Middle School, Church Lane on 6th April.
Station Commander Kevin Moores and Community Safety Manager (North) Derek Hobbs worked with the partnership and firefighters to organise the event.
Throughout the week of action firefighters will be conducting home fire safety checks to make sure houses have working smoke detectors fitted.
*Firefighters have been trained as football coaches to support a range of activities across BLFRS. On April 28th a female futsal tournament is being held in Barker’s Lane, Bedford followed by presentations at the Bedford Fire Station.
